Greater St. Louis Marathon Welcomes Full Marathon Sponsor SSM Health and Race Day Medical Director Jamil Neme, MD

Monday, April 22, 2024 [St. Louis]—The Greater St. Louis Marathon proudly announces SSM Health as the full marathon sponsor and Jamil Neme, MD, as the medical director of this week’s 2024 Greater St. Louis Marathon, which will take place on April 27.

SSM Health is committed to serving the comprehensive health needs of communities across our region by promoting healthy lifestyles, community engagement, and supporting an active community by sponsoring events that encourage healthy activities.

“We are proud to partner with GO! St. Louis to promote healthy living through local programs and fitness events, which cater to participants of all ages and athletic abilities. Our partnership reinforces our commitment to encouraging physical activity,” said Jeremy Fotheringham, Region President, SSM Health.

SSM Health’s primary care sports medicine physician Jamil Neme, MD, will serve as the medical director for the 2024 Greater St. Louis Marathon. Dr. Neme brings a wealth of expertise to this leadership role for the Marathon, where he will manage a team of more than 30 SSM Health professionals.

With a focus on sports medicine and expertise in treating non-surgical sports injuries and overuse injuries, Dr. Neme is well-equipped to lead medical efforts for the more than 12,000 runners expected on race day, plus hundreds of staff and volunteers.

“As medical director, I will work diligently to oversee everything from pre-race evaluations to on-course treatment and post-race care,” said Dr. Neme. “We’re eager to see St. Louis and our neighbors rallying together for a healthy run, followed by a well-deserved celebration.”

In his practice, Dr. Neme offers the latest sports medicine treatments, including ultrasound-guided joint injections for knees, shoulders, ankles, wrists, hands, feet, and the SI joint. He’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
