Matt Llano broke the Great Halloween 10K record at the 5th Annual Great GO! St. Louis Halloween Race, recording a time of 29:16. Llano eclipsed Ryan Bak’s record of 30:18, set back in 2009. Finishing second was Jordan Chipangama with a time of 30:12. Both Llano and Chipangama run for Team RunFan out of Flagstaff, AZ. Taking third place was Ryan Meyer, finishing in 30:42.
On the women’s side, GO! St. Louis Marathon record-holder Jackie-Pirtle-Hall returned to competitive racing and finished first with a time of 35:43. Hilary Orf, the 2012 Halloween 10K winner was second with a time of 36:01. Finishing third in the women’s division was local standout Crystal Harriss, with a 36:34.
In the Half Marathon, Mike Aitken crossed the line first with a time of 1:09:51. Finishing second was Charles Beiseman, and third place went to Matt Dirnbeck. For the women, Lea Duppe won the title with a time of 1:18:31, while Cheryl Held and Chelsea Klunick finished second and third.
More than 6,100 participants registered for the festive and fun race, which included a half marathon, 10K, 5K and a 1-Mile Fun Run.
U.S. Elite Athletes Set to Compete in Great GO! St. Louis Halloween 10K Race – Missouri’s Largest 10K
Team RunFan’s Chipangama, Llano and Fernandez Headline Field
The elite athlete field for the 2013 Great GO! St. Louis Halloween Race, which includes Missouri’s largest 10K race is starting to take shape. Headlining the men’s field are three athletes from Team RunFan in Flagstaff, AZ – Jordan Chipangama, Matt Llano and Eric Fernandez.
Chipangama, 25, returns to the Gateway City, after finishing second in the 2013 GO! St. Louis Half Marathon in April, where he posted a time of 1:03:22 – second to record-setter Aaron Braun’s 1:03:13.
Llano, 25, also competed in the 2013 GO! St. Louis Half Marathon, finishing sixth. His has a 28:43 PR in the 10K and is coming off a seventh place finish earlier this month at the U.S. 20k Championships. Most recently, he finished third at the Great Cow Harbor 10k in Northport, New York over the weekend.
Fernandez was an NCAA All-American at the University of Arkansas, and has run 28:37:77 for 10k and was a two-time Missouri State Champion during his days at Parkway West High School.
Regional elites confirmed to compete in the 10K are last year’s GO! St. Louis Halloween 5K winner Carter Snow and 2012 GO! St. Louis All-American 5K winner Matt O’Connor. Snow and O’Connor, both represent Big River Running Company. In addition, Benson Chesang, Lawrence, KS will be returning to St. Louis after a 2011 second place Halloween 10K finish. On the women’s side, 2012 Olympic Marathon qualifier and 2009 Halloween 10K winner Julie Lossos returns to compete, along with local standout Crystal Harris and 2012 Halloween 10K winner Hilary Orf.
